It has been awhile. All the roads and drives are open. April brought 7" of snow and 2.03" of moisture. The first days of May brought three days of intermittent snow with good melting in-between each snow. I recorded 6 1/2" of snow with 1 1/2" of moisture. The lake is filling up fast this year. Total snow for 06/07 season is 150.5 to date. Jim Harris

The road is open with dry spots, muddy areas and some drifted snow pack.. Humming Bird Lane still has a big drift in the road. I made it up without putting it into 4X yesterday. Jim Harris

The road is more or less open for the hardy four wheeler w/chains all the way to Troll Hill. From Troll Hill to Conifer Hill we have been driving on top of some 2 and 3 foot drifts. Make sure you bring shovels if you are going to try and come up the road.

The road is still essentially closed due to drifting hard pack snow. Several people have gotten high centered and had to be dug out. We who live at Conifer Hill full time are getting out on snow mobiles and hope that no one gets suck in the middle of the road and makes it impossible for us to get by. There are deep (16"-24") drifts at the north end of the first meadow, at the top of the second meadow, at least three places from there to Humming Bird Lane and the corner just before Troll Hill. The interior roads at Conifer Hill also have many deep drifts.

Due to the drifting snow the road is closed at this time. We are going to be working on it later in the week as more new snow and very cold weather comes into the area. When and if we get it open I'll let you know.

The wind has stopped blowing and gusting over 70 MPH, but the snow moved around a lot. Erik and I worked on the road Sunday afternoon and it is narrow but drivable. Meeting someone going up or down could be a real adventure in passing. Please remember that the person going up has the right-of-way because there is much more control in backing up hill than down hill. The times I have had to back down in ice or snow seem to always put me in the ditch.
I have been keeping snow data for NOAA since 2004. You can see this at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/bou/awebphp/snowpage.php In 04/05 and 05/06 the description was "7 miles east of Allenspark" it has been changed to "Conifer Hill" this year. My number is B-117
Total snow for 04/05 was 99.5" and 05/06 was 70". Snow total to date is 96". More is on the way later this week and then again towards the end of next week. I'm buying extra food and goodies just in case. Jim Harris
The CHRA was first conceived and brought into being primarily through the efforts of Rose Jean Harris, Mike and Peggy Deese, Lua SageFisher and Robin and Mike Sloan. The first meeting was held at the home of Mike and Peggy Deese in Niwot, Colorado. Several more meetings took place during the first spring and summer, primarily at Conifer Hill. At each meeting, another version of the by-laws was submitted, revised, and re-submitted. Lua SageFisher wrote the by-laws and then revised them after each meeting to reflect new decisions.
Conifer Hill Road has improved considerably, but still requires routine upkeep and occasional changes to keep the road open and in good repair. Water runoff management is the biggest task. Dragging, grading, surfacing, ditching and maintaining water control structures are the primary tasks.
